Private lessons offer the best of everything: personalized instruction tailored to the student's needs, with time in between (one week preferred) to practice and master concepts and music.  They include more than just right notes; I observe playing habits to ensure healthy hammering and picking, which also ensure resonant sound.  (Don't live near Denver?  Consider B&B lessons.)
I offer lesson options for everyone:

  1. Weekly private lessons for those of you living in Colorado, or even as far as Cheyenne, WY.  Weekly lessons are 45 minutes, and I recommend at least four to start.  Continuous weekly study is the most effective way to master your chosen instrument.
  2. Loaner lessons, available only to interested parties living nearby.
  3. For those living at a distance, visiting the area, or short on time due to work or family commitments, consider the occasional 90-minute lesson.  (If you're coming from out of town, bring your hammers and take the lesson on one of my dulcimers.  I have adjustable stands, too.)
  4. While I'm in your area to teach a workshop to your local club (always in combination with a concert), you can have a private lesson in your locale.
  5. "B&B" lessons; scroll down a little more for a look.

to schedule convenient lesson dates and times.

B&B Lessons

If you feel your playing is boringthe same old tunes sounding the same old wayyou are probably where I was before I took the plunge in "B&B lessons."  Lucille will show you how to put life into those jigs and reels [or anything else! Ed.] by giving them "that sound."  Where else can you find an opportunity to be the sole student of a great teacher, player and cook for five days?  It will have a profound effect on you as a person as well as a player.        —Chuck Spaulding, Mill Creek, WA

Don't live near Denver but want some concentrated instruction to jump-start your playing, at whatever level, on either dulcimer or autoharp?  Five days' worth of "bed-and-breakfast lessons" (well, it's more like lunch-and-dinner; keep reading) could be just the ticket!  It works like this: You get two lessons (at least) and practice time each day, plus some sight-seeing in the area in addition to enjoying a leisurely meals at home—whatever it takes to have fun!  What's covered?  Whatever you want!
The bed-and-breakfast part is at a nearby hotel (I currently lack adequate space to supply housing), but lunch and dinner are here, with a couple times eating out during sight-seeing trips.  I'm also cook-in-residence—y'ain't lived 'til you've had my pizza (you're my best friend if you like anchovies or are at least willing to try them)—and if you like, you're welcome to prepare one of your favorite recipes.  Additionally, we can reverse all of the above and I can come to your locale.  (In that case, I'll bring the pizza dough and cilantro pesto!)
