Lessons on loaner dulcimers and
autoharps are available to those who live nearby and want to try before they
buy.
The loaner program was begun in 1987
after my student, Florence Hollis, and the builder of my first dulcimer, Michael
Autorino, died. Each willed me a dulcimer. Rather than sell them, I
decided both should be dedicated to use by those who wanted to see if they'd
have a knack for playing before investing in an instrument. A loaner autoharp, one of my
prize
wins, is also available.
The loaner plan costs $130 and includes
four weekly 45-minute lessons. (No exceptions to weekly lessons, except if a snow storm crops
up.) I am available during the day, as well as in the evenings (Saturday
would be my last choice; however, if that's your best time, state that on the application).
You pick up the instrument one week prior to your first lesson (I give you
"homework"), and return it one week after lesson #4. If you
decide to purchase an instrument during our time together, I can advise you on makes and
models; start with the FAQs page first by clicking
here. And if you decide four
lessons were enough of an experience, that's fine, too. There's no hard
sell. I teach you the best I can, you practice the best you can, and from there you make the
decision whether this musical instrument is worth the investment of your time as
well as your money. After all, I'd like to see you play the instrument you
buy.
